Computers

ACCEL maintains approximately 105 desktop computers, which are available for use by members of the Cornell community. These machines are dual-boot computers: they can be run under with Windows or Linux. There is a large and growing selection of software installed on these machines.

Patrons of ACCEL can print to any one of five printers by using Net-Print. Both black and white (HP 8150) and color (Xerox Phaser 8200s and 8400s) laser printers available on the first floor of the library, as well as the second floor classrooms.

Lending

ACCEL lends a variety of IBM and Apple latops, digital video projectors, digital cameras, MiniDV video cameras, and tripods. Equipment is loaned from the ACCEL service desk (Carpenter Hall, Engineering Library, Second Floor) and is available on a first-come, first serve basis. If the equipment is not returned on time, the user agrees to pay LATE CHARGES.

  1. There are no renewals on loans
  2. Loans cannot be extended. All loans end at the stated ending time.
  3. Not all loans are 24 hours. Ex: If a laptop is loaned at 11pm Thursday night, it is due at 5:45pm Friday. ACCEL may short the loan period for a variety of reasons, including the possibility that ACCEL is closed 24 hours from the initiation of the loan.
  4. Equipment cannot be reserved. It is lent on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  5. Equipment cannot be "repeat lent" to patrons. Often, there is a high demand for ACCEL's equipment, and therefore ACCEL will generally decline to allow a user who has returned a piece of equipment to check out that piece of equipment if a reasonable amount of time has not passed since the equipment was returned.
  6. Late charges are 4 cents per minute per part.
  7. Users are responsible for the full cost of replacing any equipment lost or stolen. (Please note, though, that some forms of a renter's insurance cover equipment borrowed from units of a University.)
  8. ACCEL is not responsible for any loss due to the malfunction of equipment.
  9. In borrowing equipment, the user accepts the responsibility to return the equipment in the condition in which it was lent, and the user agrees to pay any charges up to and including the value of equipment in the event that it is not returned in the condition in which it was lent.
  10. ACCEL is the sole authority for determining the replacement value of equipment, lost, stolen, damaged, or otherwise broken.
