Reason for Policy
ACCEL serves a substantial portion of the Cornell computing community and receives multiple requests for special software installation for coursework.
Entities Affected By This Policy
All persons wishing to have software installed in ACCEL.
Who Should Read This Document
All employees and patrons of the Academic Computing Center in the Engineering Library.
The Policy
- Software may be installed in ACCEL upon special request. The requirements for software installation are as follows.
- The first time we install your software, you must provide:
- A copy of your license.
- Installation media and manuals.
- Requirements for Software Installation
- Software requests must be made by a Faculty or Staff member teaching a course in ACCEL.
- Software must be certified by the instructor as licensed for instructional use
- Software must be provided by the instructor two weeks prior to anticipated first date of use.
- All software must be compliant with our security and not require the modification thereof.
- All Windows software must be Windows XP compatible.
- All software must be mature, installable in a reasonable amount of time, maintainable with minimal interaction and must co-exist with our other applications.
- It is the responsibility of the requestor to handle all licensing renewal. Failure to re-license software in a reasonable amount of time will result in removal of software.
- Non-compliance with the above requirements will result in rejection of your request.
- Failure to fill out the software request form properly and completely will result in rejection of your request.
- Permanent Installation
- Software may be installed permanently as part of the Core Software Package at ACCEL upon signed agreement between ACCEL and the requesting party.
- The first time we install your software, you must provide:
- Software Removal and Renewal
- Terms of Software Removal
- All software will be marked for removal at the end of each full academic semester, Spring and Fall. The requestor will be given a two week grace period before the Software Removal Date to renew his/her request for software. Failure to respond during this grace period will result in removal of the software. If the grace period expires without a renewal request, software will be removed and the entire software installation process must be re-initiated.

- Software may be renewed by completing the Software Installation Request Form during the grace period. Refer to Section II.a for more information.

- ACCEL responsibilities
- ACCEL must assign a software installer for each software installation request. The installer will be designated by the Software Team leader or the Software Team oversight personnel.
- All software requestors shall receive a minimum of 3 emails from ACCEL during the software installation period: An automated response will be sent upon initial software request; the software installer must contact the requestor for software testing; the requestor will receive an automated message once software installation is complete.
- It is the responsibility of the software installer to respond to the software requestor in a timely fashion and arrange a time with the software requestor for software testing.
- Requestor Responsibilities
- The software requestor must respond to the requests of the software installer in a timely manner. Failure to respond will result in delayed installation times.
- The software requestor must respond to the software installer in a timely fashion to arrange software testing. Failure to have properly tested software will result in delayed installation times, and may result in rejection of the software request.
